AI assistants (MCP)
Semurai has its own MCP server, so the AI assistant you already use can work in your Semurai workspace. Ask Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code for keyword research, a site audit or a new article, and the finished work lands in Semurai, ready for your review.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI assistants use to connect to other apps. You add one address to your assistant, approve the connection once, and from then on you ask for SEO and content work right in the chat you already use. An overview of what it gives you is on the Semurai MCP server page.
What you can do
Ask in your own words. The assistant picks the right Semurai actions, works in your workspace and tells you what it did. A few examples for each area:
SEO research
Keyword research and related keywords, competitor analysis and keyword gaps, who ranks for a query, a domain overview, live ranking checks and topic clusters. More in Keyword research.
- Find long-tail keywords about cold brew coffee with low difficulty.
- Which keywords do my competitors rank for that we don’t?
- Build a topic cluster around home espresso.
Rankings and Search Console
Tracked keywords and their ranking history, new keywords to track, Google Search Console reports (overview, top queries, top pages, query trends and opportunities), page audits, full site audits and performance reports.
- How did our tracked keywords move this month?
- Show the Search Console queries with many impressions and a low CTR.
- Run a full SEO audit of our website and list the most important fixes.
Content
Search and read your articles and documents, create outlines, write SEO articles with image placeholders, update content, create documents and email drafts, plan content and campaigns, find marketing occasions and get internal link suggestions.
- Write an SEO article about choosing a coffee grinder, based on our keyword research.
- Plan a month of blog content for our store.
- Suggest internal links for the article about espresso machines.
Social media and calendar
Draft social posts (text), list your posts, check the content calendar and schedule content and social posts.
- Draft three LinkedIn posts that promote our newest article.
- What is planned in the content calendar next week?
- Schedule the LinkedIn post about the autumn blend for Friday at 9:00.
Publishing
Publish articles to WordPress, PrestaShop or the Shoper blog. On WordPress the assistant can also inspect posts and prepare, apply or discard SEO changes.
- Publish the coffee grinder article on our Shoper blog.
- Check the SEO of our five newest WordPress posts and prepare fixes.
E-commerce
Work with your connected Shoper, WooCommerce and PrestaShop stores: search products and categories, prepare SEO proposals for products, categories and image alt texts, apply the proposals you approve and import Shoper products. More in Store.
- Find products without a meta description and prepare SEO proposals.
- Write alt texts for the images in the Grinders category.
- Apply the approved proposals to the store.
Media and tasks
Search the media library, add media from a URL, update media details and organize folders. List, create and update tasks, and assign a task to one of Semurai’s agents.
- Move last week’s product photos into a Spring campaign folder.
- Create a task to refresh the pricing article and assign it to Tenko.
Connect your assistant
Every assistant uses the same server address. Copy it and follow the steps for your assistant. The same address and short steps are in the Semurai app under Settings → AI assistants (MCP).
https://api.semur.ai/mcpClaude (web and desktop app)
- In Claude, open Customize → Connectors.
- Click + Add and choose Add custom connector.
- Enter a name, for example Semurai, paste the server address and click Continue, then Add.
- Click Connect and approve the connection on the Semurai page.
On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, an organization Owner adds the connector once in Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web. Members then click Connect and sign in to their own Semurai accounts. On the Free plan you can add one custom connector. What Claude can do with Semurai, with example prompts: Claude for SEO.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins and click +.
- Choose Add custom MCP server, enter a name and paste the server address.
- Under authentication, choose OAuth, tick I understand and want to continue and click Create.
- Approve the connection on the Semurai page.
Full actions (write) in ChatGPT: Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. On Pro, custom MCP servers connect in read-only mode. You add custom MCP servers in ChatGPT on the web. Use cases and prompts to try are in ChatGPT for SEO.
Claude Code
Run this command in your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user semurai https://api.semur.ai/mcpThe --scope user option adds Semurai to all your projects. Then sign in to Semurai with claude mcp login semurai, or run /mcp in Claude Code. SEO work from the terminal, with examples: Claude Code for SEO.
Codex
Run this command in your terminal:
codex mcp add semurai --url https://api.semur.ai/mcpThen sign in to Semurai with codex mcp login semurai. You can also add the server to ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.semurai]
url = "https://api.semur.ai/mcp"The Codex IDE extension and the Codex desktop app use the same configuration. You can also add the server there in Settings → MCP servers → Add server, with the Streamable HTTP type. More on working with Semurai in Codex: Codex MCP.
Cursor
Add the server to ~/.cursor/mcp.json to use it in every project, or to .cursor/mcp.json in a single project:
{
"mcpServers": {
"semurai": {
"url": "https://api.semur.ai/mcp"
}
}
}Sign in to Semurai when Cursor asks you to. What you can ask for in Cursor: Cursor MCP.
VS Code (GitHub Copilot)
GitHub Copilot in agent mode uses the servers from .vscode/mcp.json in your project:
{
"servers": {
"semurai": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://api.semur.ai/mcp"
}
}
}Click Start above the server in the file and sign in to Semurai. Examples for Copilot in agent mode: VS Code MCP.
Other assistants
Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with OAuth sign-in connects the same way: add https://api.semur.ai/mcp as the server address.
Gemini CLI: add the server with this command, then sign in with /mcp auth semurai in Gemini CLI.
gemini mcp add --transport http semurai https://api.semur.ai/mcpIn the settings.json file of Gemini CLI, the address goes under the httpUrl key:
{
"mcpServers": {
"semurai": {
"httpUrl": "https://api.semur.ai/mcp"
}
}
}Full server with AI graphics
The address above is the official server, the one for the Claude and ChatGPT app directories and everyday work. Semurai also has a full server: the same sign-in and the same tools, plus AI graphics. You add it by hand as your own connector, with this address:
https://api.semur.ai/mcp/fullWith the full server, your assistant can also:
- create images for social posts and articles,
- create designs in Canvas,
- create designs in Creative Studio,
- work on your Creative Studio designs: choose the mode (Template, Unique or Designer), answer the designer’s questions, revise a design and go back to an earlier version or a variant,
- save social graphics, carousels and ads from Creative Studio to the media library and put them on social posts,
- suggest design ideas for your brand,
- write AI descriptions and alt texts for the images in your media library.
Add the full server
- Claude: in Customize → Connectors, click + Add, choose Add custom connector and paste the full server address.
- ChatGPT: in Plugins, click +, choose Add custom MCP server and paste the full server address.
- Cursor and VS Code: use the same
mcp.jsonas above, with the full server address.
In Claude Code, run:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user semurai-full https://api.semur.ai/mcp/fullIn Codex, run:
codex mcp add semurai-full --url https://api.semur.ai/mcp/fullA connection approved for the official server works with the official server. To use the full server, add it as a separate connector and approve the connection on the Semurai page. In Claude Code and Codex, sign in with claude mcp login semurai-full or codex mcp login semurai-full. Graphics created through the full server count toward the workspace’s usage limits, like graphics created in the app.
First connection and workspaces
The first time you connect, the assistant opens a Semurai page. Sign in if you are not signed in yet, then:
- Check the name of the app and the address your browser returns to. Both are shown on the page.
- Choose the Default workspace.
- Click Allow. The browser takes you back to the assistant, ready to work.
The assistant works in the default workspace. When you ask, it lists your other workspaces, works in any of them and can switch the default, for example: Which workspaces do I have? Switch to the store workspace.
Longer work runs in the background: writing an article, a full site audit, a content plan, social posts or a topic cluster. The assistant checks the progress and brings you the result when it is ready. The drafts appear in the Semurai app: in the Library, the content calendar and your social posts.
Manage and disconnect
In the Semurai app, open Settings → AI assistants (MCP). There you find:
- both server addresses (official and full) with copy buttons, and short steps for each assistant,
- the connected apps, with the date each one was connected and when it was last used,
- the default workspace of each app, which you can change at any time,
- Disconnect, which ends the app’s access immediately.
To use a disconnected assistant again, connect it again from the assistant.
Safety and usage limits
- You confirm what leaves Semurai. Publishing or scheduling outside Semurai (WordPress, the PrestaShop or Shoper blog, social networks) and applying changes to a store or a WordPress site are separate actions, and the assistant asks you to confirm each one.
- Store changes start as proposals. SEO changes for products, categories and images are created as proposals first, and only the ones you approve reach the store.
- Your role applies. The assistant works with your role in each workspace. With the Viewer role it can only read basic information about the workspace.
- One set of usage limits. Actions from an assistant count toward the same usage limits as your work in the app.
Troubleshooting
- The connection link has expired: the approval page is valid for 10 minutes. Start connecting again from the assistant.
- The assistant says it lost access: connect it again. Under Settings → AI assistants (MCP) you can check whether the app was disconnected.
- The usage limit is used up: wait until it renews, then ask again.
- A tool says an integration is not connected: connect Google Search Console, WordPress or your store under Settings → Integrations, then ask again. See Connect your website or store.
