    The standard Instagram post size is 1080 × 1350 px (4:5). Since 2025 organic posts can be up to 1080 × 1440 px (3:4); square posts are 1080 × 1080 px and landscape posts 1080 × 566 px (1.91:1).

    The standard Instagram story size is 1080 × 1920 px (9:16); Meta recommends 1440 × 2560 px for story ads. Keep text out of the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% on each side.

    An Instagram Reel is 1080 × 1920 px (9:16), and its cover image uses the same size. The profile grid shows only the middle 1080 × 1440 px of the cover (3:4), so keep the title there.

What changed in 2025

Instagram now accepts portrait posts up to 3:4, which is 1080 × 1440 px, and the profile grid shows tall rectangles instead of squares. Many guides still stop at 4:5, which remains the limit for feed ads.

For stories and Reels, Meta now asks you to keep the bottom 35% of the frame free of text, not the 20% that older guides quote, along with the top 14% and 6% on each side.

One design, three formats

A post, a story and a Reel share the same 1080 px width, so adapting a design is mostly about height. A 4:5 post becomes a story by adding room above and below the content, not by stretching it.

Questions about these sizes

What are the Instagram dimensions in 2026?

Feed posts are 1080 × 1350 px (4:5) as a rule, and organic posts can go up to 1080 × 1440 px (3:4). Square posts are 1080 × 1080 px, landscape posts 1080 × 566 px, and stories and Reels 1080 × 1920 px.

Does Instagram crop my images?

In the feed, images between 1.91:1 and 3:4 are shown as they are, and anything wider or taller is cropped. The profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 preview, so 4:5 posts lose a little from each side there.

Are Instagram stories and Reels the same size?

Yes, both are 1080 × 1920 px at 9:16 and Meta gives them the same safe zone. The difference is the Reel cover, which also appears in the profile grid as a 3:4 crop.

Can I make every Instagram size from one design?
