TikTok aspect ratio and video size
TikTok is built for vertical 9:16 video, and 1080 × 1920 px is the size creators and design guides use.
TikTok itself publishes no recommended resolution for regular posts. Its posting API accepts videos with each side between 360 and 4096 px at 23 to 60 fps, and its ad specs recommend vertical 9:16 at 540 × 960 px or more. Horizontal 16:9 and square 1:1 ads are allowed too.
TikTok safe zones
TikTok’s safe zones change with the video’s ratio and the caption length, so TikTok publishes them as downloadable overlay files with its ad specs rather than as numbers.
The caption, the account name and the buttons sit on top of the video, so keep text and faces in the middle and check your design against the overlay before you publish. If you post the same video as an Instagram Reel, Meta’s guidance is to keep the top 14%, the bottom 35% and 6% on each side free of text.
TikTok video length and file limits
You can record up to 10 minutes in the TikTok app and upload videos up to 60 minutes long.
Through the posting API that scheduling tools use, every creator can post 3-minute videos and some can post 5 or 10 minutes. Ad videos can be up to 10 minutes and 500 MB; API uploads up to 4 GB, ideally MP4 with H.264.
Tips
- Design at 1080 × 1920 px from the start instead of cropping a wide video.
- Keep text away from the bottom and right edges, where the caption and buttons usually sit.
- Download TikTok’s safe-zone overlay for your ratio and caption length and check your text against it.
- Export MP4 with H.264, the codec TikTok recommends for API uploads.
How to make it in Semurai Canvas
- Create a design in Semurai Canvas and pick the “Instagram: story” size (1080 × 1920 px), the same as a TikTok video.
- Add your text and logo in your Brand Kit colours and fonts, keep the words in the middle of the frame, and add entrance animations for motion.
- Export an MP4 or GIF for a motion graphic, or a PNG or JPG for a photo post.
