Templates to start from
PowerPoint presentation slide size
New PowerPoint presentations open in Widescreen, 13.333 × 7.5 in (16:9).
PowerPoint also offers Standard (4:3) at 10 × 7.5 in and custom sizes. Its On-screen Show (16:9) option is 10 × 5.625 in: the same shape as Widescreen on a smaller page.
Google Slides and moving between tools
Google Slides offers Standard 4:3, Widescreen 16:9, Widescreen 16:10 and custom sizes in inches, centimetres, points or pixels.
Google does not publish the inch size of its 16:9 slide; design references give 10 × 5.625 in. Because PowerPoint’s Widescreen slide is 13.333 in wide, content scales when a deck moves between the two, so check text sizes after the move.
Slide size in pixels
For a deck shown on screen or saved as images, 1920 × 1080 px (Full HD) is the common 16:9 size.
In pixels, a slide depends on the export resolution. PowerPoint’s Widescreen slide is 1280 × 720 px at 96 DPI, 2000 × 1125 px at 150 DPI and 4000 × 2250 px at 300 DPI.
Tips
- Pick 16:9 unless you know the screen or projector is 4:3.
- Set the slide size before you add content: changing it later rescales everything.
- Use one idea per slide, with text large enough to read from the back of the room.
- Use 1920 × 1080 px for slides you cut into a video: it matches a 1080p YouTube video.
