What A5 is used for

A5 is a standard size for flyers and leaflets, notebooks and planners, booklets, invitations and menus.

An A4 sheet folded in half gives four A5 pages, which makes A5 the natural size for a simple booklet printed on A4.

A5 dimensions in pixels

At 300 DPI, the usual target for print, A5 is 1748 × 2480 px. Use it for flyers and invitations: they are read from up close, so small text needs every pixel.

At 150 DPI, A5 is 874 × 1240 px, and at 96 DPI, for an on-screen preview, 559 × 794 px.

Printing A5 flyers

Print shops usually ask for bleed: the background extends past the trim line, often by 3 mm per side, so no white edge shows after cutting. Their template tells you the exact amount.

Keep text and logos a few millimetres inside the trim, and send the file at the 300 DPI size, 1748 × 2480 px or larger.

Tips

  • Set the size to 1748 × 2480 px before you design; a layout scaled down from A4 often ends up with text that is too small.
  • Body text on an A5 flyer should still be easy to read at arm’s length: keep it short and generous in size.
  • For a landscape A5, swap the numbers: 210 × 148 mm, or 2480 × 1748 px at 300 DPI.
  • Ask the print shop for their bleed and colour requirements before you export.

  3. Export a PNG or PDF and send it to your printer, after checking their bleed and colour requirements.
